Sea Kayaking is a popular way to get up close with Glacier Bay. There is a nice long 800 mile shoreline to explore.
All kayakers are required to attend an orientation, which includes safety instructions and wildlife safety. You will be given a wilderness survey form to fill out when you return from your adventure.
Kayak Rentals are available at the Glacier Bay Visitor Center for $50.00 per kayak. There are also guided kayak trips available and overnight kayak trips available.
Kayakers can plan to be picked up and or dropped off by a tour boat at specific locations during summer months.
Bring appropriate clothing, such as layers, for you may get hot because of moving your kayak or get cold by sitting and enjoying the scenery. Gloves, a hat, water, rubber boots, life vest, and sunscreen will be useful. Food is an option, but please do not dump leftovers into the pristine lake.
Safety Precautions -
Always make sure the weather forecast is clear, you have knowledge of the tides, and that you have a map of the waters so you don't get lost.

Safety Precautions -
- stay at least 1/2 to 1/4 a mile away from tide water glaciers. Tide water glaciers are glaciers that "shed" their ice in huge mounds. Those mounds of ice can fall unexpectedly and flip a kayak.
- Watch out for wakes or waves made by tour vessels or boats that could flip a kayak. Also, kayaks are hard to see from big, tall vessels. Stay well away from them while kayaking.
